Underarm sweat is produced by sweat glands located just below the surface
of the skin. These sweat glands work by secreting fluid to help cool the body. For people with axillary hyperhidrosis, these underarm sweat glands are overactive - frequently turning on when they should be at rest, and producing much more sweat than a normal person.
Conventional Treatment Options
There are several treatment options for people who suffer from excessive underarm sweat. These options vary in terms of efficacy, duration of effect, and associated risk/invasiveness.
•
Prescription antiperspirants can be effective in mild cases of axillary hyperhidrosis and are often recommended as a first line treatment. Often ineffective in more severe cases, prescription antiperspirants may also cause skin irritation and the ingredients can damage certain fabrics.
•
Botulinum toxin type A injections can provide temporary relief of excessive underarm sweat by blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that activate the sweat glands. While overall quite effective, Botulinum toxin injections do not cure hyperhidrosis; your symptoms will return gradually, requiring additional injections.
•
Surgery is typically considered a last resort, reserved for severe hyperhidrosis cases that have not responded to other treatment options. Surgical approaches involve disabling sweat glands, which may provide effective long-term relief. However, because there are inherent risks associated with any surgical procedure, surgery is typically considered after other options have been tried.
The Dri-Up Treatment: A New Treatment Alternative
Doctors are now evaluating an investigational, outpatient treatment designed to provide a lasting solution to excessive underarm sweat through a non-invasive procedure. The treatment is called the Dri-Up Treatment and is currently being offered as part of the DRI-UP Clinical Study.
The Dri-Up Treatment uses electromagnetic energy to target and deactivate sweat glands in the underarm, while leaving surrounding structures intact.
Intended Benefits of Dri-Up Treatment
✓ Lasting Solution to Excessive Underarm Sweat
✓ Targeted Deactivation of Sweat Glands
✓ Non-Invasive
✓ Outpatient
The Dri-Up Treatment does not involve any incisions. Prior to treatment, the underarm is numbed using a local anesthetic. Then, the Dri-Up Applicator is pressed against the underarm and electromagnetic energy is transmitted through the skin down to the precise area where sweat glands reside. This energy targets and deactivates sweat glands in the underarm, which may result in long-term reduction in underarm sweat.
